Candlestick Chart

« Back to Glossary Index

The Candlestick Chart originated from Japan and has gained popularity as a chart style used in the Western financial markets to study and monitor how a stocks price moves over time. While the Bar Chart shows the price information as a simple vertical line, the Candlestick chart shows the segment between the open and close as a two-dimensional body which provides a more graphical display of the pricing information conveyed on the chart. Candlesticks are quite often simply referred to as Candles.
